American Pharoah & Justify Meet the latest Triple Crown winners. They are as good looking as he is fast. Book a farm tour at Coolmore and you might just meet the man. American Pharoah and some of his barn mates do spend time (July- December) south of the equator. Book a tour right here. Hint: book early as the farm tours sell out.
Churchill Downs – See the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks horses with your very own eyes during morning workouts at Churchill Downs the week before the Kentucky Derby. Starting May 1, Churchill Downs offers Dawn at the Downs which invites the public to come watch morning workouts. The Derby and Oaks horses are easy to spot as all the horses will have their names on their saddle clothes. Derby horses wear gold saddle cloths and the Oaks horses wear pink. There will be no mistaking who is who. You might as well stay for afternoon races! Pro tip: Some of the Derby and Oaks horses can be seen paddock schooling.
Drive – Take a drive through the Lexington country side to see famous thoroughbred farms. HSD has created a drive to ensure you see the most you can.
Keeneland – The 2018 spring meet at Keeneland overlaps a few days with the Kentucky 3-Day (25-27) so you may as well go to the races. Keeneland is worth a visit even if you miss the race days. It is stunning and located across the street from the Bluegrass Airport. There is no good reason not to go. You can take a tour or wander around on your own. Don’t forget to go to the gift shop. More info here.
Old Friends Farm – “Horse racing’s living history museum.” Meet and learn about some of the greatest thoroughbreds of our time. Learn more here.
