Side Trips

Fancy taking a drive to look at horse farms, checking out some tack stores or casually bumping into famous riders? Here are some suggestions.


Horse and Hounds: Casual dining and full of horse people. Found on HWY 27 beside Blue Wagyu (Dish) and Winning Edge.

The Blue Wagyu (Dish): Wagyu specialists but have something for everyone. Hours and days of operation differ from the norm so be sure to check it is open before heading that way. Horse people often refer to this restaurant as Dish.  

Pepe’s: When you enter you may think you are walking into a corner store. You are, but the restaurant is straight ahead and to the right. Great Mexican food. 

Blue Highway: A great pizzeria found in three locations – Ocala, Micanopy and Tioga. Great salads, pastas and pizzas – eat in or take out.

Ocala Downtown Square restaurants: There are several restaurants in this lovely part of town. There is something for everyone here.

Tack Stores

Winning Edge: Located beside the restaurants Dish and Horse and Hounds.

Tack Shack: 0.6 miles from OBS.

Country Lane Tack: Less than 5 miles from the Florida Horse Park.

Other Horsey Things

Tampa Bay Downs: Live horse racing Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from January 2 to April 28, 2019 and only 2 hours from Ocala. If you find yourself in Tampa you should visit Busch Gardens theme park, Tampa beaches and Ybor City which has unique shopping and eating by day and lively bars and clubs by night.

Gypsy Gold Farm: If you are looking for something colourful and flashy you can take a tour of Gypsy Gold Farm to see and learn about Gypsy Vanner Horses. Tours take place Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays starting at 10 am.

Take a drive: This will take you past OBS, Live Oak, HITS, Longwood, Robert’s Quarter Horses and Hors & Hounds. Along the way you will see some magnificent farms.
